Upskilling is one of the most important mega-trends now.
AI won’t remove all humans jobs, but it will remove A LOT of jobs in the short term. If your job is, for instance, reviewing historical records or comparing many documents or images, it’s a pretty safe bet your job will be replaced with AI within the next 2-3 years.
We as a society need to upskill millions of knowledge workers and it’s one of the biggest challenges (and opportunities) of our time. Interestingly and ironically, AI can provide much help here. If traditional MOOCs are a very simple, “sit down and watch hours of videos” model, the next wave of professional education would be customized, personalized, interactive education, helped by AI (and possibly metaverse as well).
In terms of upskilling, one thing I’d like to see personally is teaching soft skills. We’re talking about basic stuff like being accountable and responsible, learning how to manage time and calendar/schedules, responding to emails and Slack messages on time, treating your coworkers with respect, etc. These are really, really basic things but schools don’t really teach these skills explicitly and it’s becoming harder to pick up these skills at work with remote work etc. Wonder if AI can help teach these soft skills too.
