Legend says that when Vikings first landed on enemy territory, the first thing they did was burn their boats so the only way to go back home was to win the battle.
This move is completely irrational and illogical. Why not think about “just in case” scenarios? Why waste time and resource on this non-combat activity before the battle? What if the enemy sees the smoke and finds out your location too soon?
But they still did it intentionally. Either conquer this land, or die today. No way of safelying going back home.
Startups need to think this way – either solve this problem or we’ll get buried in the startup graveyard. Burn the boat. There’s no plan B.
It’s nice to have a plan B when you absolutey need it (your parents might invest if you asked; you can probably go back to Google to find a position there; etc.) But that doesn’t mean you should constantly think about those plan Bs in the back of your head. Erase any plan B from your system. Think like Vikings.
