My friend said: ”AI won’t reduce lunch meetings to 15 minutes, or Zoom catch-up calls to 3 minutes.”
It’s such an obvious statement, but it carries a lot of meaning.
AI will do everything faster, compressing the time it takes to do tasks.
But it won’t reduce natural human rhythms. Lunch meetings will stay 1-1.5 hours. Zoom catch up calls will stay 30 minutes (or whatever is considered conventional).
What AI actually does is free up the time around those interactions. The “work” will get done faster. People will get to have more meaningful 1:1 conversations, not fewer.
The future of AI will mean more human interactions – especially in-person, IRL interactions.
What will keep (some) people from enjoying this new freedom for more meaningful human connection will be their own ambition and desire to do more – just like the ability to fly higher pushed Icarus to fly too close to the sun.
