What if AI were a 3D printer?
Everyone is talking about the death of SaaS – soon everyone will build their own software using AI. But will that really be the case?
Imagine you had a powerful 3D printer at home that could produce virtually anything.
Would you mean you will make your own hammer? Would everyone build a hammer from scratch? Or, would it be easier to run down to the hardware store and buy one for $20?
Some people might want a specially shaped hammer for their own purposes (a hammer specifically designed for left-handed users!) But many people would probably still prefer the convenience of buying a well-designed, affordable hammer off the shelf.
I think there is still room for thoughtfully designed point solutions that solve a specific problem with elegant UI and reasonable pricing – in other words, a $20 hammer.
The first products to disappear, however, may be “bloatware” tools packed with 50 other unnecessary features and therefore priced far too high.
