I recently listened to a podcast featuring co-founder of a company called Mycoworks. Mycoworks develops products based on mycelium, or in plain English, mushrooms.
Their first ~10 years was almost pure R&D with little to no revenue.
But now that they’ve nailed down their technology after all those years of R&D, they’re expanding their business rapidly. Their product has so much potential, touching on so many different industries, from cleantech to car upholsteries to fashion. They’ve recently become a unicorn company.
But think about those 10 years with all the uncertainties and what must have sometimes felt like zero progress.
Meanwhile, think about how much the world has changed over the past 10 years. Uber didn’t really exist 10 years ago, neither ChatGPT or self-driving cars.
But all you’re doing is growing and researching mushrooms.
That’s entrepreneurship. You’re so obsessed about a problem that you keep going for 10 years, focusing on one area, while the world changes so fast and you feel like you’re getting behind every day.
Are you ready for a 10 year journey? Are you ready to keep going without being distracted by all the shiny developments of the world?
