I was talking to someone who recently made the switch from operator to VC. He said the first thing he did was to join a community – I won’t name it, but it the community basically works like YC for new investors.
I thought that was a great move. The bigger lesson was, before jumping into anything new, you should always see if there’s a community you can join. It’s so easy for high performers to try to tackle things on their own.
It seems like now the default question to ask is, “Is there an AI agent for this?” But for almost anything we want to do, there’s probably already a person who’s done it, or is doing it now. So, it’s worth remembering to reach out to people, not just turn to the AI.
