Founders – hire people you know will leave.
Conventional phrase goes: “we’re looking for someone who can be with us for the long haul”.
But in today’s world, everyone and their brother wants to become a solopreneur using AI tools. A better approach might be to be more upfront about it and find entrepreneurial spirits who want to get a couple years of real-world training before they start their own companies.
So the pitch would be like: “We’re actively seeking to hire people who will start their companies in a year or two. If you’re one of those, that’s great. While you’re here, treat this company like it’s yours, solve our real problems like they were your own company’s. Gain the experience you need to build your own rocket ship.”
They might indeed leave at some point, but while they’re with you, these hungry, self-starting problem solvers might take your company to the next level.
And who knows – if your company turns out to be that rocket ship, they might actually stay for the long haul.
