I was talking to a founder who’s building a powerful AI engine that lets you create any gaming world you want. My suggestion was to offer more specific use cases and guardrails, which might look like limiting the model’s potential but I believe would lead to more creativity.
Imagine you’re designing a house. In which scenario do you think you’d be more creative?
- “You can build anything and everything you want,” or
- “We’re remodeling a colonial-style house, and your job is to redesign the kitchen in a warm, cottage style”
Probably the latter. This is the power of constraints and boundaries. Often (especially in UGC platforms) providing structure and guided paths leads to more creativity, and therefore more repeat usage.
