I’m a little pissed off that Altos Ventures didn’t make the Forbes Midas List (link in comment).
I have zero affiliation with Altos and no interest whatsoever. I’m not even tagging them here. I just have admiration for what they’ve built and believe they deserve far more recognition.
I honestly believe the Korean startup ecosystem can be divided into “before and after” Altos. They invested in leading Korean startups – Coupang (#1 in ecommerce), Toss (#1 in fintech), Krafton (#1 in gaming), Baemin (#1 in delivery), and many other companies. Korea is a major startup nation now, sitting at #8 globally in terms of venture investment in 2024 (only behind China and India in Asia), and Altos had a big role in that growth. On top of this, they invested in great US companies like Roblox too.
According to Forbes: “The Midas List is compiled annually using a data-driven approach that combines public information with submissions from investors at hundreds of VC firms.” I just wish those “hundreds of VC firms” included more international players.
